Berlin and the Subjective status that follows

This weekend i was in Berlin.

Berlin is a fascinating place because there is still a sense of East and West Germany present. I feel that a least. Its not the feeling of communism and capitalism. Its the tourist sense, its the cab drivers, its the buildings, its the memories.

I spoke to a woman cab drive, and i asked her about her memories. She said she lived in the West and she doesn't like to talk about it...thats all. A country was divided over social issues, divided enough that if you want to cross over, they would kill you. Men would kill other men just because of how they wanted to live. Its all subjective.

I didn't hate berlin, and i didn't hate the germans. I hated that there is a sort of gentrification in the country...assimilation even. I don't know german, but i caould get around. Thats what shocked me.

Socialism was more of an arsenal that a political structure. COmmunism was a weapon, and not a political system. Some would argue that capitalism is also a weapon, but i'm staying clear of that topic...enough polotics for one weekend.

Next thoughts: The subjective principles vs. realistic social forces. We live in an MTV generation full of faces...what will socioligists come up with next?
